Ladies
and Gentlemen,
It
is a pleasure to be here with
you tonight.
Greetings on behalf
of the Government of Canada
and Prime Minister Chrétien.
Congratulations
to AMISTAD for organizing
this Ball.
By raising awareness
of abuse at youth oriented
events such as this one, you
are demanding that this problem
be no longer largely ignored,
but fought aggressively by
all people of good will.
The
safe haven that AMISTAD helped
establish to educate and rehabilitate
young victims of sex crimes
gives us all hope.
The youth are our future;
by showing them the caring
environment that you have
created for those victims
who have been robbed of their
childhoods, you are helping
to make certain that it will
be a brighter one.
In
closing, I wish continued
success to Father Shay with
the Guardian Angel campaign.
Congratulations
again to the AMISTAD Philippine
Woman and Children's Foundation
on this Debutantes' Ball.
Let all Canadians join you
in your fight against sex
trafficking, abuse and dependency
among Philippine women and
children.
Thank
you.
