Canada As an Act of Will
Message
to Constituents Present
in
Mill Woods Park by
Hon.
David Kilgour, M.P., P.C.

July 1, 2002
Ladies
and Gentlemen, Girls and Boys,
Canada
was born a noble vision and
an act of will.
Ours is a northern
land of freedom and opportunity,
a place where people from
around the world make their
home.
We are a welcoming
nation, where people celebrate
cultural-religious differences,
yet stand together in national
pride as Canadians. Let’s
celebrate this freedom, never
take it for granted, and recognize
it always as the heart of
Canada’s strength.
This
celebration in the park does
more than commemorate the
founding of Canada. It reminds
us of the ideals which make
the country unique, and urges
us to look around and treasure
our neighbours’ diversity
and encourages us to look
forward to a promising future
for the whole nation—all 30
million of us.
Every
Canadian—young, old and in
between—is called upon to
make a contribution to building
our country.
The promise of Canada
must become an even stronger
reality in the 21st
century. Our Canadian way remains the best example of
what is possible when women
and men of every origin and
creed come together in community
in search for a better future.
Finally,
I’d like to thank both the
organizers and volunteers
that made this celebration
possible as well as all of
you.
Thank you for coming
out, enjoying yourselves,
and helping to unite the Mill
woods community even tighter
together. It’s events like
these that express the real
nature of the Canadian identity.
I wish each and every
one of you a safe and happy
Canada Day!
