Kilgour Reflects on the Tragic Events in Mayerthorpe

Hon. David Kilgour, Member of Parliament for Edmonton – Mill Woods – Beaumont, issued the following statement following news of the tragic events in Mayerthorpe: 

“I join fellow Albertans and Canadians in expressing deepest sympathy to the families and colleagues of the four slain RCMP officers of the Mayerthorpe and Whitecourt RCMP detachments. 

The tragedy at Rochefort Bridge is a grim reminder of the daily hazards faced by members of all police forces.  They are community heroes: facing unknown dangers in their daily work as they strive to ensure the safety of Canadians everywhere. 

There are no words to explain the loss of these four brave young officers.  We can only take solace in knowing that they died trying to make our world a better place.

We honour their memory and the legacy of their convictions and courage.”
