On September 23rd, President Bush will address the world's leaders at
the opening of the United Nations General Assembly.
This gathering of world leaders comes at a critical time for justice
and accountability in Darfur:
J
ust over two weeks ago, the Sudanese army attacked one of Darfur's
largest camps for displaced persons, killing 31 innocent men, women,
and children.
In July, the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC)
sought a warrant for the arrest of Sudanese President Bashir on
charges of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity.
President Bashir has been lobbying African and other governments to
protect him from the ICC by asking for the ICC process to be delayed.
Sudan's charm offensive is working; its allies are pushing hard for
the ICC investigation to be suspended for at least a year.
The United States has played a leading role in pushing for justice and
accountability, and resisting the threat of an ICC suspension.
Click here to encourage President Bush to speak out strongly at the
United Nations in support of the ICC work to bring Bashir to justice.
President Bashir seeks impunity, but his forces continue to attack
civilians in Darfur. As the commander in chief of Sudanese government
forces, Bashir must be held accountable for these crimes.
Your voice makes a difference.
