Israeli Knesset (Parliament) Member, and chairman of the Knesset's Constitution, Law and Justice Committee, Menahem Ben-Sason, seeks Knesset members to support his call for an urgent parliamentary discussion regarding the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) persecution against the spiritual practice Falun Gong. With this motion, Ben-Sason seeks to position Israel among the ranks of parliaments and congresses around the world which have passed resolutions calling for the Chinese communist regime to bring the persecution of millions of Falun Gong practitioners to an immediate end. The United States house of Representatives have passed several resolutions including two which passed unanimously, calling on the Chinese regime to immediately halt the persecution of Falun Gong in China and overseas, as have the German Parliament, and the Australian Senate, the Taiwan Legislative Yuan and the European Parliament, and others. Many State, Provincial, and regional governors and legislative bodies around the world have passed similar resolutions. Ben-Sason's decision initiate the legislation followed new testimonies according to which the CCP has increased the persecution in order to "eliminate the problem" before the beginning of the Olympic Games. "Millions of Falun Gong practitioners in China have turned into citizens with no legal status … have lost their basic rights as humans without any apparent reason," he wrote in his letter to the chairman of the Knesset, which he calls for more Members of Knesset to sign. He also mentioned that an unknown number, estimated in hundreds of thousands, are detained in labor camps experience "reeducation" through terrible torture, and some of them die as a result. He also mentioned the Bloody Harvest report, a report into the allegations of organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners in China, written by Canadian former Secretary of State David Kilgour, and international human rights lawyer David Matas. Ben-Sason first met Kilgour in February, when he first learned that the Chinese regime is involved in large-scale organ seizures from unwilling Falun Gong practitioners , killing them in the process. Swedish Parliament held a seminar on China's human rights abuses on June 16, during which the persecution of Falun Gong was discussed. According to the seminar hosts the Chinese regime has not improved its human rights situation before the Olympics, but rather increased its persecution of Falun Gong practitioners, Tibetans, and other religious groups.
