Prince Charles won't go to Beijing Games

AAP NEWS, January 28, 2008

The Free Tibet campaign group says Prince Charles has written to them saying he will not be attending the opening ceremony of next year's Olympic Games in Beijing.

Free Tibet campaigns against human rights abuses in the Chinese province.

It says it wrote to the Prince, who is an outspoken supporter of the Dalai Lama urging him not to attend the games.

And the group says it has received a letter from his deputy private secretary, Clive Alderton, confirming he won't attend the opening ceremony.

The group says it welcomes his decision and is calling on other high-profile public figures and politicians to follow suit.
