Message from Chad

January 15, 2007

Friends and familia, hello from Chad:

Outside of the N'Djamena airport, Katie-Jay and I got in to the car of our new friend, Mubarak.  I asked him about Chad, and he said, "Chad is Chad, you know."  I do know.  I feel strange to be back; it's now my fourth trip to the area.  There is an instability in the air that can almost be felt on the skin.  We head out to visit the refugee camps on the border with Darfur in just a couple of days, and we will start i-ACT, same-day webcasting from the field, on Jan 19 and continue it for ten consecutive days.  You'll soon get to see many of our now "old friends."  Please be an active part of this i-ACT by not only watching the videos but by also writing to the refugees and us.  Take it a step further, though, and do the daily actions we'll be calling for and then come up with your own ways to get involved and make a difference.

We are already journaling and answering comments at www.stopgenocidenow.org, so you can jump onboard now!  Also, you can now see our latest i-ACTzine.  On it, you will see a short video that shows genocide scholar Samantha Power sending a message to the people of Darfur.  The message is also very much for us.  It is about our responsibility, as regular citizens, to act.  Darfur is happening on our watch.  Let our president know that we cannot stand by any more, and that he has a chance to change his legacy.  Sign on to our simple, but clear petition to President Bush for true action.

In advance, thank you for coming along on this journey.  We will be working hard on creating a deeper sense of community between the people that are in danger and those that have the will and ability to help.  In the end, we will all benefit and grow.

Paz,
Gabriel

Three things YOU can do today:

  1. Tell friends and family about Darfur.  Forward this e-mail to them.  They can meet the real individuals that are in grave danger at stopgenocidenow.org.  They can learn more at enoughproject.org.
  2. Sign our petition to President Bush.
  3. Support Us.  Help us put a face on the numbers and create awareness and action that will stop the genocide NOW!
