Panel One: Beyond Policy Differences, a Common Cause – In Support of the United Nations
-
Most of the countries talk about yes we want to see Burma moving toward democracy and human rights, but practically each country put her own interest rather than interest for Burma and Burmese citizens. For example: China doesn’t want to give up its economic opportunities and exploiting Burma’s natural gas, mining, and forest and so as India, Thailand, Singapore and other Asian countries.
Even some companies from democratic countries like Canada, UK, and US have been doing business with Burmese regime. The governments could not stop or do anything to those companies like Ivin Hole.
The military regime play a game of diplomacy and exploiting on the differences of international community depends on their interests. The international community never came up with common strategy to change Burma for democratic and human right development.

Panel Two: Engaging in National Dialogue
-
For this topic, none of the indigenous ethnic people can accept the regime’s strategy of divide and rule policy among same ethnic group by hand picking someone who is not representing for their own people.
Daw Aung Sann Su Kyi and NLD must be taking major role as well as ethnic armed groups who have been fighting for democracy and freedom for over 5 decade. The junta led national convention is another deception and lack of credibility.
Meanwhile, the international community need to understand that the Burmese military regime use religion and racism to divide between Burmese democratic oppositions and ethnic armed groups. It is dangerous and it prevents genuine national reconciliation for future of Burma.
-
Panel Three: Improving Living Conditions – Encouraging Cooperation with International Humanitarian Organizations
-
Humanitarian crisis is junta’s self-made disaster. Only way to deliver humanitarian Aid is across border distribution. Thousands of Karen, Shan, Karnni, Chin and Arakaness refugees have been facing starvation and genocide.
The neighboring countries like Thailand, India, Bangladesh is very important to assist refugee crisis. The role of civil societies and Buddhist monasteries will play important role of helping humanitarian crisis inside Burma.
-
Panel Four: Democratization and Human Rights
-
Human Rights violation must stop right now and Mr. Ibrahim Gambari, the UN special envoy need to deliver a strong message to Burmese generals and should address the regime to stop human rights violation and forced labour right a way especially in the region of Burma’s ethnic indigenous people.
We can’t wait another one more day to stop human rights abuses, which became chronic emergency. If the regime is honestly working toward democratic reform, it shows the gesture of stopping human rights violation through out the country.
Mr. Ibrahim Gambari and some international communities believe that Burma's recent announcement of a timetable for a constitutional referendum and elections as positive sign. What they do not understand is it is part of the regime’s strategy to delay and divert international pressure and buying the time to manipulate and exploit the international communities base on their policy differences for its own interest.
UN special envoy and international community should start calling arms embargo, targeted economic sanction and freezing the assets of the members of SPDC regimes and its relatives who have been holding bank account in foreign banks. Canadian government should lead most important role of preparing post war national reconciliation program for Burma and start educating Burmese people in exile about anti-racist democratic multiculturalism and racial tolerant.
International community need to show tangible assistant to support democratic opposition groups to support UN Efforts in Burma if they are serious enough about changing Burma toward democracy and human rights worthy.
