David Kilgour and David Matas.
"But for six hundred years, the westminster system of government has said if you want to talk to a parlimentarian, you are free to come
into parliament house. The Chinese Embassy cannot stop us meeting in this house today or ever, that is freedom." said Gordon Moyes, Member of Parliament.
On the afternoon of September 5 the Asia-Pacific Human Rights Foundation held its 2007 awards ceremony at the New South Wales Parliament House. At the time of this APEC summit, this is one of more important events the overseas Chinese dissident groups held. This upset the Chinese government which then directly put pressure on the New South Wales Governor requesting he cancel the event. But the Governor refused the Chinese government's request. The member of Parliament who helped arrange the venue for the award ceremony Gordon Moyes said that he himself had already made it on China's blacklist and that they even have a photo of him at the Chinese consulate, but this of course could not stop him from standing up for justice and conscience. On the day of the ceremony he and Green party senator Kerry Nettle attended the ceremony together, and presented some of the awards.

This award ceremony hosted by New Zealand university lecturer and foundation director Li Dong, as well as by Hong Kong Chinese Human Rights Forum Hong Kong coordinator Zhen Sanggang, Federation for a Democratic China Australia chairman Qin Jin also gave remarks as an honored guest. The award ceremony also received congratulatory letters and greetings from Yang Jianli and Beijing Spring's Hu Ping.

Asia-Pacific Human Rights Foundation president Pan Qing said: the reason to host this year's human rights award ceremony during the time of the APEC summit is to make known our opinion about the direction of China's development, the value of the human person is the core of the development of Chinese society.

Inner Mongolia People's party chairman Xi Haiming expressed in an interview that this sort of award ceremony is very meaningful; it can really inspire those inside who are still suffering. "As we put on activities outside China those inside China can feel a sort of hope, this is especially important."

Wei Jingsheng: You can continue with the lies, but in the end you can't continue to conceal it another eighteen years

Named as Overseas Democracy Movement leader, Wei Jingsheng presented the "June Fourth Resist Tyranny Hero" award to those who are still serving time in Beijing prisons such as Zhu Gengsheng and nine others who represent all those who resisted suppression in the June Fourth Massacre. In speaking he expressed that today's award is to commemorate their spirit, and to commemorate their tears of blood and the suffering they went through! And at the same time, though it is little consolation, present this award to them and their relatives who are also suffering and in tears.

He believes that a people's suffering and grief will be written in history books, but it will not be inscribed on their faces forever. Under intimidation and suppression the blood of those who died for their country and the grief of those who fought tyranny has been covered up for eighteen years! Relying on violence and intimidation, the cover up is only temporary, it absolutely cannot last a long time; because after all, justice is not on the side of murderers, and people will not truly forget! They may use lies and brutal tactics to continue, but in the end they can't continue to conceal it another eighteen years.

China Political and Religious Sufferers Support Network's Sun Liyong accepted the award on behalf of the 10 awardees, in receiving the award he said, "at this moment I am filled with faith in the future, through this award we can look back together at history." At the time, in order to protect the more than 100, 000 students who came to Beijing, for the sake of humanity's conscience, hundreds heroic persons stepped forward to resist suppression, now their suffering is beginning to receive this belated attention, they represent China's conscience, China's spiritual wealth.
