The Statement about Burmese Current Political Situation
The Statement about Burmese Current Political Situation
By Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition
Released on October 1, 2007
|
Recently, the Burmese people rose up in protest. Almost 20 years after
1988, another wave of civilian resistance against the rule of the
Burmese military government started again. Once again, the Burmese
military government has suppressed this uprising, which resulted bloody
tragedies. To cover up the reality and truth, the Burmese military
government has already obstructed and cutoff the normal communication
channels between Rangoon and the outside.
The international society has responded. Western countries have
expressed their serious concern over the situation in Burma, calling on
China, India and Eastern countries to exercise their influence, in a
collective effort.
We think that the violent behavior of the Burmese military government
is a result of its despotic governing nature, with an even larger
despotic country in support behind, in open and in the dark. Burma
behaves just like a Southwestern province of China. To ask the Chinese
government to dissuade the Burmese military government from violence
would be a fruitless approach. The Chinese government needs the
Burmese military government to be able to control Burma politics in a
stable and long-term means. This would be beneficial for China to
remain the only large autocratic nation in the world, with the mutual
help from Burma, Vietnam, North Korea and Cuba. When the Burmese
political situation is not stable, as evidenced by stronger civilian
resistance, the suppression of the military government strengthens as
well. As this time, the Chinese government supports for sure will be
the Burmese military government, instead of the Burmese civilian
resistance forces. We hope the international society would see this
issue clearly, instead of holding too much excessive and unrealistic
illusion. The Chinese Communist autocracy is the friend and backing
force of all the despotic powers of this world.
Various Chinese democracy organizations in exile are calling the
international society, especially those allied nations that overthrew
Saddam Hussein's regime, namely the USA, England, Australia, Italy, and
Spain, etc, out of courage and wisdom of world leaders at this time, to
actively intervene, instead of serving simple oral "attention and
concern." To directly intervene in the atrocity of the Burmese
military government would not be viewed as pursuing interest, but a
reflection of morality, justice, and value in this world. Only
intervention can really solve the turbulent political situation in
Burma, to avoid further human miseries. We hope you will once again
display the courage and responsibility of 1998 at the intervention of
Kosovo's genocide.
We strongly condemn the atrocity by the Burmese military government.
We urge the Burmese military to stay away from massacre and stop its
despotic rule, and return government power to the people, to release
detained peaceful demonstrators without any condition, and to release
the symbol of Burmese democracy, Aung San Suu Kyi who has been put
under house arrest for a long time.
The Chinese democracy organizations in exile express our full
understanding and support for the Burmese monks and civilians.
Although we are not in the same nation, we pursue the same goal, and we
are in the same boat to help each other.
